Darling Downs father pleads guilty to horrific molestation of daughter

A violent, sadistic father has told a court he bit his young daughter when she attempted to escape his sexual abuse.

A Queensland father has confessed to sexually abusing his young daughter multiple times over years while she was in his care.

A Darling Downs father, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of his children, pleaded guilty before Toowoomba Supreme Court to six counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12 of lineal descent (domestic violence offence).

The court heard the man, now in his thirties, repeatedly molested his daughter and exposed himself to her from when she was six to eight years old.

Prosecutor Dejana Kovac said the young girl was threatened with violence if she fought against her father’s grotesque advances.

“(On one occasion) she tried to push the defendant away in distress, in response, he bit her on the chin,” she said.

Ms Kovac said the man’s offending had also caused the young girl to contract a sexually transmitted infection.

“The offending, in my respectful submission, represents a profound breach of trust,” Ms Kovac said.

“He performed those sexual acts to satisfy his own deviant sexual gratification.

“She was vulnerable, she was innocent, she was in his care, and she was his daughter.”

The man’s defence team argued he had worked hard to better himself since his arrest, completing multiple academic classes including introductory psychology, mathematics and humanities.

They said the man had suffered a traumatic childhood and was molested by his teacher at a young age.

The court heard he suffered from multiple mental health disorders including schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder for which he was medicated.

He was additionally diagnosed with pedophilia at the time of the offending.

Justice Catherine Muir condemned the man’s actions, highlighting his horrific effect on a little girl’s future.

“I have no hesitation in finding that there would be an ongoing devastating impact on her by your actions,” she said.

“I cannot begin to imagine the consequences upon her.

However, Justice Muir said the man had made strides to address his heinous behaviour.

The man was sentenced to five years imprisonment for each offence, to run concurrently, after already serving more than four and a half years in pre-sentence custody for this and other unrelated offending.
