Daniel James Gegg caught hooning on streets of Cecil Plains six times in three hours in two vehicles

As well as a fine the 36-year-old driver had both cars forfeited due to his driving. Here’s what happened in court:

Hooning on the streets of Cecil Plains has cost a 36-year-old man a sizeable fine and the loss of two vehicles.

Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told Daniel James Gegg had on six separate occasions in two different vehicles over a matter of hours caused tyres to spin on the streets of Cecil Plains earlier this month.

Police prosecutor Tim Hutton said residents of the town had been fearful his driving could potentially strike a child as members of the public were on the street at the time.

Sergeant Hutton said four of the incidents had been in a Holden Commodore while in the other two Gegg had been driving a Ford.

Both cars were impounded for 90 days and police were seeking forfeiture of both cars, he said.

The self represented Gegg said he did not oppose forfeiture of the vehicles, adding that his car had broken down and he was testing the vehicles.

Magistrate Mark Howden said he believed under the legislation in the circumstances the forfeiture of the cars was automatic.

Hotel Victory, Cecil Plains

Gegg pleaded guilty to six counts of making unnecessary noise or smoke and one of committing a public nuisance in the vicinity of a licensed premises.

That charge arose from Gegg parking outside the town’s Victory Hotel on February 3 and playing music loudly including the song “F--k The Police”, Sergeant Hutton said.

Customers of the hotel had been made to feel uncomfortable by the incident and Gegg had also sworn loudly in public, he said.

Mr Howden noted Gegg had only recently been sentenced to a wholly suspended four month term for unrelated matters and convicted and fined him $800.
