Four days after police issued a young woman with a notice banning her from Toowoomba’s nightclub precinct, she was caught trying to enter a number of venues.

At Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 8, Tarnelle Kerri Louise Hall pleaded guilty to one charge of contravening a police banning notice.

The 19-year-old was banned from partying in town after she was involved in an incident at the Cube Hotel on New Year’s, the court was told.

The police banning notice stated she was not allowed within the Toowoomba Safe Night Precinct for a month, however an undeterred Hall tried her luck when the weekend rolled around four days after the notice was issued.

The court was told on weekends, officers were specifically tasked to patrol and monitor CCTV feeds across the Toowoomba Safe Night Precinct to enforce good order and remove drugs off the street.

As a part of the ongoing operation, partygoers’ licences are scanned upon entry to venues.

The court was told Hall was caught flouting her banning notice when her licence was scanned by security at the Tatts Hotel on Saturday night, January 6.

Seven minutes later Hall tried her luck at the Cube Hotel, however her licence was again flagged by the computer system, and she was denied entry.

Less than half an hour later, police patrolling the area spotted Hall leaving Tatts.

She told the officers she had no idea she was banned from the area.

Solicitor Michael McElhinney said Hall was unemployed and in a de facto relationship, noting she pleaded guilty to the charge as soon as possible.

He asked for no conviction to be recorded given her young age and lack of history.

Magistrate Louise Shephard placed the young woman on a three month good behaviour order.

“Because of your conduct you were issued a banning notice by police,” she said.

“(But) you were in the precinct and attempted to enter into licensed premises on a number of occasions.”

If Hall commits an offence within that time period, she will be ordered to pay a $400 fine for contravening the police order.

No conviction was recorded.
