Only three days after his release from jail on parole, a Toowoomba man found himself on the wrong side of the law after he accepted a lift in a stolen car.

Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told the vehicle was spotted speeding, running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road from Gatton to Toowoomba, before it was stopped by road spikes on the Warrego Highway near Oakey on January 7.

Curtis Jade Lee Gaulton, 25, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

On Friday Curtis Jade Lee Gaulton, 25, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle and obstructing a police officer.

Gaulton’s solicitor Michael McElhinney said his client was released from Brisbane Correctional Centre on parole on January 4, but he missed his bus to Toowoomba and instead caught a train to Ipswich.

Mr McElhinney said Gaulton should have been suspicious when his cousin arrived to pick him up in a vehicle he knew didn’t belong to him, but got in as a passenger.

Magistrate Kay Philipson convicted Gaulton and sentenced him to a three month jail term, suspended for nine months.
