A 36-year-old man with a penchant for getting nude on Toowoomba’s streets and performing lude acts has been returned to the city’s Magistrates Court on wilful exposure and other offences.

Police responding to reports from the public of a man running naked on Campbell and Gowrie Streets in Mort Estate about 4pm, August 5, had found a fully clothed Christopher Neale Roberts on a nearby street.

While clothed, Roberts appeared affected by some substance and was swearing and rambling, the court heard.

He told police he had been released from custody that day and had had a hit of meth and that he didn’t know what he had been doing.

Police investigations found Roberts had trespassed through a number of residential yards that afternoon.

He appeared via video link from the prison to plead guilty to wilful exposure, four counts of trespassing, one of breaching bail and to breaching three probation orders by reoffending.

His solicitor Alysha Jacobsen, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, told the court her client’s offending stemmed from drug use after meeting up with friends using meth.

“He doesn’t recall what he does when he uses methylamphetamine,” she told the court.

In relation to the trespassing matters, there was no suggestion he was getting up to anything else but cutting through the yards, Ms Jacobsen submitted.

Magistrate Clare Kelly noted Roberts had a lengthy criminal history which included previous offences of wilful exposure.

Declaring 30 days of pre-sentence custody as time already served, Ms Kelly sentenced Roberts to four months in jail but ordered he be released on parole immediately.
