A 37-year-old Toowoomba man who has gained nationwide notoriety for incidents of public nudity and indecent acts is to remain in custody until sentenced on his most recent charges later this month.

Christopher Neale Roberts was not in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday, January 12, when 14 charges against him were briefly mentioned.

His solicitor Chris Neville, of Condon Charles Lawyers, asked the court for a date for sentence of his client who would appear via video link from the prison on that day.

Charges scheduled for sentence included six counts of stealing, and one each of attempting stealing, possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils, failing to properly dispose of a needle/syringe, breaching bail, receiving tainted property and threatening violence.

Police claim Mr Roberts threatened a takeaway store attendant in November 2023 when he had asked for a free meal of fish and chips and though the store had provided free hot chips the fish was not forthcoming.

Mr Roberts was arrested after the store employees called police and he has been held in custody since after being refused bail by the court on that occasion.

An officer from Corrective Services told the court on Friday that the department would be breaching Mr Roberts’ parole order which he was on at the time of his latest charges.

Mr Neville said he expected the sentence hearing to take about 30 minutes.

Acting Magistrate Patricia Kirkman-Scroope therefore remanded Mr Roberts in custody and adjourned the matter for sentence back in the same court on January 30.
