Cameron Cooper blew breath/alcohol reading more than three times limit

Police witnessed the 23-year-old speeding and passing cars on Ruthven St before blowing three times the limit. Details:

A third of drink and drug driving offenders come from these two professions

A 23-year-old Withcott man with two previous drug driving convictions and two drink-driving offences has been warned he risked jail after fronting court on a high-range drink-driving charge.

Cameron Cooper appeared surprised when Magistrate Kay Phillipson warned him if he came back on another such offence he would be risking a jail term.

“Really?” the 23-year-old replied.

Police prosecutor Anita Page told Toowoomba Magistrates Court that a mobile police patrol had seen Cooper driving at speed along Ruthven St and passing other vehicles before turning into Donation Lane in the CBD about 10.40pm, July 28.

Police who approached his car could smell alcohol and a roadside breath test returned a positive reading for alcohol and Cooper was taken to the police station when he returned a breath/alcohol reading of 0.162, she said.

The self-represented Cooper pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor.

“It’s pretty foolish, a massive mistake,” he told the court.

Cooper said he was now without his driver’s licence and he had to go back to Western Australia to retrieve a vehicle.

Noting this offence was the fifth of like nature in five years, Magistrate Phillipson fined Cooper $850 and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for seven months.
