A 27-year-old Toowoomba man accused of a violent home invasion in which guns were allegedly held to the heads of home occupants has appeared before the city’s Magistrates Court.

Brandon Duncan appeared in court via video link from prison on Wednesday, January 24, on charges of entering a dwelling with intent by break at night while armed and in company and threatening violence, armed robbery in company with actual violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm used to commit indictable offence.

Those charges arise from what police described as a “frightening” home invasion at a Glenvale residence late on the night of Monday, January 8, in which it was alleged Mr Duncan, Beverly Alice Faye Hinch, 37, and 21-year-old Jack Andrew Perrin forced their way into the home armed with two shortened .22 rifles which were allegedly held to the heads of home occupants with threats to “blow their brains out” while demands for property were made.

Police claim the complainants’ wallets and keys were stolen and the trio allegedly left in a stolen vehicle.

None of the three accused have as yet been required to enter any pleas to their respective charges and all have been remanded in custody.

Mr Duncan told the court on Wednesday he had yet to obtain a lawyer.

Magistrate Clare Kelly suggested Mr Duncan obtain the services of a lawyer using the prison Legal Aid service and ordered that the police brief of evidence be disclosed to the defence by February 28.

Ms Kelly remanded Mr Duncan in custody and adjourned his case for committal mention back in the same court on March 6 with Mr Duncan to appear again via video link from the prison on that day.

Ms Hinch and Mr Perrin’s matters are due back in Toowoomba Magistrates Court for mention on February 28.
