Benjimin Brett Waters charged with interfering with a corpse has matter mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court

A 37-year-old man who has been charged with interfering with a corpse, arising from the alleged dumping of Blake Riley’s body in Toowoomba, has had his matter mentioned in court.

A 37-year-old man charged with interfering with a corpse, relating to the alleged dumping of a 28-year-old Toowoomba man’s body on the city’s eastern outskirts, has had his case mentioned in the city’s Magistrates Court.

Benjimin Brett Waters has been remanded in custody and was not required to be in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, February 20, when his matters were mentioned.

He has been charged with “misconduct with a corpse by interfering” arising from the discovery of the body of 28-year-old Blake Riley found in bushland at Preston on January 7, 2021.

Waters has not yet been required to enter any plea to the charge and no details of the police allegations have as yet been aired in open court.

Kelly-Ann May Sinclair, 37, of Glenvale, has been charged with manslaughter arising from the death of Mr Riley and has been committed to trial on that charge.

The three people were known to each other.

The court was told on Monday that Waters’ legal representatives had asked for a copy of a transcript from Ms Sinclair’s court appearance and asked for a further adjournment.

Magistrate Louise Shephard remanded Waters in custody and adjourned his case for committal mention back in the same court on March 28.
