A newcomer to the day care industry, Alecia Richards has a clear talent for early childhood education.
Her efforts have seen Ms Richards recognised for her commitment to her role, receiving the Family Day Care Australia Educator of the Year award for the Toowoomba, Darling Downs, Somerset, and Lockyer regions.
Through her scheme, Choices Family Day Care, Ms Richards started working as an educator at Bush Retreat Family Day Care in April 2022 and quickly grew to be an essential part of the team.
Situated in Wivenhoe Pocket, the popular day care centre focuses on nature-based learning and participating in outside activities and adventures.
“It’s really a joy to see (the children) happy, and see their light bulb moments when they engage in the learning activities,” Ms Richards said.
“It’s lovely watching the children grow and develop … and seeing them bond with age-care residents at our monthly trips to Blue Care.”
“I learn from them all the time … it’s so rewarding watching the children reach milestones.”
Family Day Care Australia chief executive Andrew Paterson said the awards were a great opportunity to recognise and showcase educators across the country.
“Alecia’s unique and nurturing approach to early years education and her dedication to children and families is the reason why so many choose family day care,” Mr Paterson said.
Four national finalists will be announced on October 17 who will then be invited to attend an awards gala in Adelaide on November 25 where the Educator of the Year winner will be announced.
