Staff at a local grocery store were greeted by an unusual customer as a koala wandered into the store in regional Victoria.
The koala decided to pay the Meeniyan IGA — off the south Gippsland Highway in Victoria — a visit last week.
Store owner Kaelene Shervall told Today the koala “has a little roosting area over in the trees in the middle part of town”, but he “ended up at (the store’s) door and was very determined to come in”.
“We had great difficulty getting him back out,” Ms Shervall told Today.
Videos and photos show the koala wandering through aisles and even climbing up a herbs and spices stand and taking a close look at a newspaper stand and children’s hats.
The koala didn’t cause any damage to the store, however Ms Shervall said she was concerned about how the koala would make its way back home.
Staff were able to wheel the koala back to safety using a ladder.
