Major rescue operation underway for man who fell in unused mine shaft

Authorities have launched a desperate rescue operation after a man fell down a mine shaft.

A major rescue operation has been launched after a man fell down an unused mine shaft in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Emergency services were called to Dry Creek Rd in Ellalong about 12.45pm on Tuesday after reports of a workplace incident.

Upon arrival police were told a man had fallen into an unused mine shaft.

Officers remain on the scene as of 5pm Tuesday, alongside Police Rescue, NSW Ambulance, and Fire and Rescue NSW.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the rescue operation is expected to be ongoing for “some time”.
