Young guns and female players headline our top 20 round 8 list

From four try hauls to massive efforts off the kicking tee we’ve ranked the top 20 player performances from Round 8 of the TRL. Find out who your club cracked our list here.

Round 8 of the Toowoomba Rugby League season was full of tries, thrilling individual performances and plenty of passion.

Some interesting ‘team stories’ are also being written with country club in the Hutchinson Builders A-grade competition gathering momentum and a new force emerging in the Toowoomba Sports Club Women’s division.

Here’s our look at the top performances from the weekend.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:Zachary Alberts (Souths Reserves), Lachlan Taylor (Souths Reserves), Cameron Matheson (Souths Reserves), Swithen Sakiki (Warwick Reserves), Mitchell Dabin (Highfields Reserves), Kyle O’Toole (Highfields Reserves), Isaac Leach (Wattles Reserves), Taylor Fenton (Valleys Women), Steven Buhse (Gatton U19s), Samuel Gilmore (Wattles U19s), Lachlan Watt (Newtown A-grade), Oliver Chaffey (Brothers A-grade), Simione Ata (Brothers A-grade), Josh Fanning (Highfields A-grade) all scored two tries for their teams at the weekend.

10. Kobie Deluca (Wattles U19s)

With his side cruising to a 54-4 win over Pittsworth Danes, Deluca was able to pad out his points tally for the year.

The young winger scored a try and kicked seven conversions.

9. Tony Clevin (Brothers A-grade)

The flying fullback had a busy weekend with Brothers running in 11 tries in their 60-16 win over Newtown Lions.

Clevin scored a try and kicked eight conversions in the game.

8. Zoe Cook (Valleys Women)

The Clydesdales aligned prop had a solid hit out against Dalby Diehards.

Cook scored a try and kicked five conversions in her side’s 38-10 win.

7. Kelsie Price (Highfields Women)

Price soared to the top of the try scorers list at the weekend.

The Eagles second rower scored three tries in her side’s comprehensive 58-0 win against Oakey Bears.

6. Jake Speed (Warwick A-grade)

Speed was in the thick of the action when his ladder leading Warwick Cowboys clashed with second placed Gatton Hawks at the weekend.

The light footed winger scored a double as the Cowboys ground out an 18-10 win.

5. Michael Hazard (Goondiwindi A-grade)

The crafty halfback had his hands in everything against Southern Suburbs Tigers at the weekend.

Hazard scored two tries and kicked five conversions in the Boars 38-30 win.

The Clydesdales aligned star was a key figure in Roosters 38-10 win against Dalby Diehards.

The gun prop scored a try and kicked five conversions.

4. Denzel Burns (Valleys A-grade)

Burns scored nearly half the Roosters points in their clash with defending premiers Dalby Diehards.

The speedy centre scored a hat-trick in Valleys 28-12 win away from home on Saturday night.

3. Reily Land (Highfields Eagles)

A two try effort would normally earn a spot in our honourable mentions list Land however deserves special mention for his double at the weekend.

Land started his day with the Highfields Reserve Grade side and scored nearly half his side’s points

The halfback scored a try and kicked six conversions in the Eagles 40-8 win over Oakey Bears before backing up with a try off the bench in his A-grade defeat against the same opposition.

2. Reagan McMillan (Highfields Women)

The Eagles centre climbed the top scorers list with a massive effort at the weekend.

McMillan took her tally to six tries for the season with a four try haul against Oakey Bears.

She sits one try behind Gatton’s Mia Davies, Newtown’s Kiara Taylor and her teammate Kelsie Price.

1. Pittsworth/Wattles A-grade

We can’t go past the collective efforts of the Wattles Warriors Pittsworth Danes following their gritty 12-12 draw at the weekend.

Both sides settled into a real arm wrestle with Wattles holding a 6-0 lead at halftime and a 12-0 advantage just before the hour mark.

Wattles certainly deserve praise for the efforts at the weekend but the Danes collective determination earns them the number one spot this week.

Away from home and trailing 12-0 with just 13 minutes left in the game the Danes finished strong to secure a draw with their country rivals.

Laurie Jocumsen (67th minute) and Thomas O’Sullivan (73rd) scored tries and Kade Warren held his nerve kicking the two important conversions.

The Danes are proving they can match it with their more fancied opposition this season which makes them a team to keep an eye on.
