He might not score the same headlines lavished on some of Toowoomba’s high-flying gallopers.
But don’t expect that to get under the skin of Tisani Tomso.
He’s too busy each week going about his business of turning up for work, giving his best and delivering to be chasing bouquets.
Tisani Tomso last Saturday notched his 15th career win from 83 starts for Toowoomba trainer Kevin Kemp with a typically gritty Roma Open Handicap win at Bassett Park.
That latest winning day at the office moved the nine-year-old’s prizemoney total to more than $480,000, with the help of another 31 minor placings.
Not a bad little career earn for the offspring of $400 sale purchase Clear Run who has become one of Queensland’s most prolific producing broodmares.
Tisani Tomso is raced by Toowoomba’s Moore family including father Jim - a brother-in-law of Kemp - and his sons Gary and Gavin.
The Moores, who run Genta Blue Petfood and have a long connection with the greyhound industry, have raced numerous horses successfully with Kemp but Tisani Tomso sits atop of the top of the pile for consistency and performance.
“He’s an unreal horse,” Kemp said this week.
“He’s so genuine - an absolute trainer’s dream. We all wish we could have a stable full of Tisani Tomsos.
“He has given the Moore family a lot of thrills and proud moments, and it was terrific to see him winning again at Roma last week with the help of a good Josh Morrow ride.”
The name Tisani Tomso was created through a combination of letters from names of Jim’s grand children Timothy, Samuel, Nick, Thomas and Sophie.
“Under Thunder was the first horse Jim and the boys raced with me,” Kemp said.
“He could gallop and so could a lot of others since like Tisani Boy, who started out with Lindsay Hatch, Tisani Lad, Tisani Magic and now Tisani Rose.
“Quite a few of them are out of Clear Run who Jim bought at a tried horse sale for around $400 I think.
“Her progeny have now won close on $1 million.
“But Tisani Tomso is just a cracker.
“He loves stable life and being in work. He loves his racing and he’s sound.
“You only have to look at his consistency to know what a little pro he is.”
