FOOTBALL: With the minor premiership secured, Willowburn's premier women's side is turning its attention to the TFL finals.
The Magpies' 2-0 win over Gatton earlier this week was enough to secure the silverware with three regular season games remaining.
Coach Stephen Pennells said his side would now focus on fine-tuning their preparations for the finals series.
"I'm proud of the team - we had a bit of a get together the other night to celebrate,” he said.
"We've had two odd periods to deal with lately. We've now played five games in the past 14 days but before we only played a small handful of games over about five weeks.
"Winning the minor premiership is excellent because now we can go about fine-tuning our technique heading into finals.”
A topsy-turvy schedule hasn't helped his team over the past weeks but Pennells said he could not fault his team's efforts.
"We're not playing great footy at the moment,” Pennells said.
"But the effort and the intensity is still there.
"Our defence is still great, our midfield is good and we're still creating plenty of chances - we just haven't finished as many. But that's down to technique - we just haven't been able to get out and train as much the last fortnight or so.
"I can't fault the team, the spirit among the girls is great and everyone is working hard.”
Matches against the competition's top four over the next few rounds will also help his team, according to Pennells.
"We play USQ this weekend and Rockville in the next round,” he said. "That means will have played all of the top four teams over the last rounds of season.
"That will really help us prepare for finals.”
