FOOTBALL: Late in the game, outside the box and right off the laces - Chris Veivers scored the type of goal every striker dreams of at the weekend.
Leading the line for Willowburn White, Veivers found the back of the net in the 85th minute - breaking the deadlock to secure his team a 1-0 win over Rockville Rovers.
"It's a bit of a surreal feeling really,” Veivers said.
"Every goal is a good one, but when you score one late in the game and it's the winner it's even better.”
The win propels the Magpies into third place on 10 points - three behind TFL Premier Men's leaders USQ FC and one ahead of Rockville.
Facing a Rockville team full of attacking flair and running, Veivers said his team's defence stood tall in a game where chances were hard to create.
"I think our defence was impeccable,” he said.
"Rockville are a great team and we limited their chances. We went into the game with a lot of confidence and determination after our draw with USQ.”
Chasing a fourth straight win, it was a disappointing result for a Rovers side who had scored nine goals in their previous three games.
"It was a disappointing result for us,” Rovers coach Ramiz Hadzich said.
"I think Thursday night's game took a bit of toll on us - we picked up a few injuries and we didn't quite have our normal drive forward.”
However, Hadzich said he took plenty of positives away from the game.
"The team has really gelled since the first game,” he said.
"Our performances are improving all the time.”
