CRICKET: Wests have the simplest of goals in their two-day clash with Highfields Railways.

Take a minimum of five points from the clash and secure third place on the TCI ladder.

How they will go about securing those points is just as simple according to Wests bowler Shaun McCarthy.

"We have to do all the basics right,” McCarthy said.

"Highfields-Railways are good side.

"They've got a good bowling attack so our batsmen will have to be on their game, but we're confident.”

McCarthy said his team's unity could potentially play decisive role in the outcome of the game.

"I think one of the things we've done well this is work as a unit,” he said.

"We haven't relied on any one player. If someone is a bit flat someone else is stepping up to fill the gap.

"We bowl as a pack and work hard.”

With weather disrupting several matches recently, McCarthy said Wests have trained harder this week to ensure they are prepared.

"We've had a good turnout at training this week. Everyone wants to play,” McCarthy said.

"Hopefully the weather works in our favour.

"Everyone wants to see the ladder positions decided by the players not the rain.”
