We reveal the cheapest and most expensive junior sports in Toowoomba

With the winter sporting season underway, we reveal the cheapest and most expensive junior sports from the major winter sporting codes in Toowoomba. See where your sport ranks here.

With the winter sports season right underway, we have run the rule across all the major sporting codes to determine the cheapest and most expensive junior sports in the Garden City.

The costs for each sport are a general average and the overall actual cost for families will vary from club to club.

* The registration fees published in this article are averages only and may be subject to change. Some clubs and sporting organisations may charge more or less to register players as well as charging additional fees for other services or programs they may provide. The prices in this article cannot be used as definitive figure when choosing to register as a player.

Aussie Rules

Depending on the age, Aussie rules will cost on average between $100 and $150.

For children playing in the under-8 and under-10 age groups, the average registration is $100, then rises to $130 for under-12s and $150 for under-14s.

The season runs for 20 weeks, starting in April, and there are also three junior carnivals throughout the year.

In terms of what is included with sign-on, it varies from club to club with each having their own selling point as to whether the registration fee also covers shorts, socks or any other gear.

Soccer

Registration with Football Queensland Darling Downs clubs will vary depending on what age group your child is playing in, with Mini-Roos (U6 to U11) costing roughly $200 and juniors (U12 to U18) costing $260.

Both levels of junior competition run for similar amounts of time with Mini-Roos running for 19 weeks and juniors running for 20 weeks.

Rugby league

Across the nine affiliated Toowoomba Junior Rugby League clubs, each club sets their own registration fee, with the average cost $175.

While it may vary from club to club, players will generally receive a training shirt, player shorts and socks.

The season runs for 14 rounds plus finals and there are also carnivals throughout the year as well.

Basketball

Basketball registration costs around $150 but there are also varying additional club and match fees.

The junior competition runs for two terms from April 22, to September 6.

Union

The junior rugby union competition for children in the U6 to U12 age groups traditionally runs from April to July and costs between $170 and $240.

Hockey

The registration and insurance costs start from $65 for the Mink Minkies, which is for three and four year old players and goes up to $350 for the U18 junior age players.

The season runs for around 25 weeks, with all games played at Clyde Park.

Netball

The average registration cost for Saturday junior netball in Toowoomba is $240.

However, that does not include the cost of uniforms.
