After months of hard work and unforgettable moments on the field, the home and away season of the Toowoomba Rugby League has finished and what a year it was.

From the under-19s through to A-grade, the rugby league on show has been a class above and now the best of the best are set to vie for a coveted premiership over the next few weeks.

Double delight for Gatton

Gatton entered the final round of the season with a one-point lead in the mens’ A-grade and open women’s competitions and both sides came away with victories to complete minor premiership doubles.

There was an added incentive this year to take out the A-grade minor premiership, with the Madsen-Rasmussen and Presidents’ Cups rewarded to the premiers for the first time, instead of holding the mid-season cup final day.

After Dalby produced a late upset win over Warwick in the men’s clash on Saturday, the minor premiership was already sealed before the Hawks stepped onto the filed on Sunday, while the Gatton women needed to win to avoid Highfields leapfrogging them into top spot.

The Hawks A-grade men are a force to be reckoned with and in the space of a month, have gone from being three points adrift of the league-leading Cowboys, to winning the minor-premiership by three points in an impressive six-point turnaround.

Warriors roaring into the finals

In their final game before finals, Wattles put on a show in front of their home faithful as they claimed a stunning 96-12 win over Goondiwindi in A-grade.

The Warriors crossed over for 17 tries, with Matthew Christensen scoring six of them.

With performances like that, Christensen and Wattles will be a force to be reckoned with in finals.

Diehards end Warwick’s invincible run

Heading into this weekend, the Cowboys were on the cusp of a historic perfect home and away season after winning their first 17 games but the Diehards were on hand to spoil the party.

Led by the ever-reliable Travis Babington, Dalby claimed a thrilling 14-12 win to secure fourth spot on the ladder.

Eagles end campaign on a high

While they were out of the finals race, the Highfields Eagles A-grade side capped off its stellar end of season run with an impressive 36-20 victory over Brothers.

The Eagles, led by Steve Haywood in his first season as coach of A-grade after previously leading the under-19 Eagles to back-to-back premierships, won four of their last five games.

In their last three games, Highfields scored a stunning 144 points at an average of 48 points per game.
