As we enter a new era of women’s cricket in the Garden City, we are running the rule over the new Toowoomba cricket competition to rank our top performers from each round. See who made the list from your team here.

It was an action-packed second round of the Toowoomba women’s cricket season, with plenty of stellar individual efforts.

Each week, we are shining a light on the five players who shone the brightest and made key contributions for their sides.

5. Julie King (Souths)

King kicks off this week’s list after an impressive effort to help the Magpies claim a comprehensive victory over Northern Brothers Diggers.

She started strongly, taking 1-2 from two overs, before backing it up with an unbeaten 21 runs from 40 balls.

4. Mikaela Dorge (Wests)

Dorge was a key figure in Wests 40-run win over Highfields as she scored an unbeaten 33 from 31 balls and took 1-17.

3. Teagan Davidson (Souths)

Davidson narrowly beats Dorge to third place after an impressive display with bat and ball where she scored 31 runs from 34 balls and took 1-3 from two overs.

2. Mabel Galbraith (Wests)

Galbraith takes second spot in this week’s top five after a superb performance to lead Wests to their first win of the season.

She scored an unbeaten 25 runs from 40 balls with the bat and also took 2-8 from three overs.

1. Chloe MacDonald (Northern Brothers)

It may not have been enough to help her side claim victory, but Chloe MacDonald put in an incredibly brave performance to give Northern Brothers Diggers a fighting chance.

Opening the batting, she carried her bat from start to finish as batters around her struggled against the Magpies attack.

MacDonald scored an unbeaten 44 runs from 25 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes along the way before the Dragons were bowled out for 83.

Round 1

From the dominant efforts from the Highfields and Districts Railway Bulldogs, who claimed a statement win over Northern Brothers Diggers, to the nerves of steel from the Souths Magpies team who claimed a 10-run win over Wests, see which players were a cut above the rest in round 1.

5. Alice Rigby (Souths)

Rigby kicks off this week’s top five after a solid effort with bat and ball.

With the bat, she scored 15 runs at the top of the order to kickstart the Souths innings.

With the ball, Rigby took 1-14 off three overs.

4. Melissa Lyell (Souths)

Rigby is joined by Souths teammate Melissa Lyell in our top five after her strong performance against Wests.

Lyell scored an unbeaten 20 runs before also chipping in with the ball as she ended with figures of 1-8 from three overs.

3. Margie Hamlet (Northern Brothers)

Hamlet showed her class with the bat as she scored 30 runs from 26 balls to lead the Northern Brothers fightback which took them from 4-49 to 5-109 at the end of the 20 overs.

2. Jorja Caldwell (Highfields)

After Highfields lost a pair of early wickets, Caldwell steadied the ship with a solid 31 runs from 25 balls to take back the ascendancy.

Earlier in the game, she showed her class with the ball, conceding just eight runs from three overs at an economy rate of 2.66.

1. Ruby Sipple (Highfields)

Sipple takes the top spot in this week’s list after she scored an unbeaten 33 runs from 22 balls at a strike rate of 150.

Her stellar stint included eight boundaries as she guided the Bulldogs to victory with 49 balls to spare.

If her efforts with the bat weren’t enough, she also took 1-17 in the first innings.
