Back in action after a three-year hiatus, Pittsworth Danes have a shot at writing their names into the history books this Saturday.
Victory over Gatton Hawks coupled with a Brothers loss will secure fourth-place on the TRL Toowoomba Sports Club Women’s ladder and a coveted spot in the finals.
Booking a spot in the finals would nicely cap off what has already been a great season according to Danes coach Darren Hollis.
“I’m really happy with how the season has gone so far,” he said.
“Considering this is our first season back after three or so years out of the competition it’s really pleasing.
“I think we’ve performed really well with a lot of new players and that is a mark of the commitment from them all.
“It’s been an exciting time for the club as whole, making the finals would be a great achievement for everyone.”
Pittsworth play Gatton at home this weekend, the same team that they beat 28-0 less than a week ago.
Hollis was rapt with his team’s performance last Sunday but said they will take nothing for granted when they face Hawks again.
“I don’t think their (Hawks) spot on the table is a fair reflection of the team,” he said.
“They’ve had some changes in the off-season and are not where they have been in the past but they’re still a very good footy team and we can’t afford to take anything for granted.
“When we’re playing good footy we’re focusing on our defence, keeping it tight and our completion rate getting to our kick.
“Gatton are going to be a challenge and we need to be out our best.”
Highfields and Valleys will have everything to play for this weekend as well with the minor premiership.
Highfields can clinch first place with over Brothers while Valleys will need to beat Oakey and hope Highfields lose.
