SPEEDWAY : Victorian Mick Nicola Jr celebrated his trip to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Saturday night with victory in round one of this season’s Super Sedans Series.

Nicola won a tense duel in the 30-lap feature to claim victory from reigning Australian champion Matt Pascoe and Toowoomba’s Sean Black.

The Modified Sedan event also produced some outstanding racing.

With three laps remaining Rodney Pammenter had his nose in front of fellow Toowoomba driver Nathan MacDonald before a Luke Townsend spin brought on the yellow lights.

The restart was set for a three-lap dash to the finish with MacDonald getting the better of the start with Pammenter looking for something on the top and Darran Lester running mid track.

At the checkered flag it was a Toowoomba quinella with MacDonald taking the win from Pammenter and Lester.

Toowoomba’s Keith Blatch finished second in the Lightning Sprints with another Towoomba driver Amy Evans third in Production Sedans.

The next Toowoomba meeting is on November 23.
