SOME of Australia's most exciting sprinters will converge on Pittsworth today looking to grab a slice of Australian history as the winner of the inaugural Arthur Postle Gift.

The $5000 75-yard dash - run in memory of the town's world-record-breaking Arthur "The Crimson Flash” Postle - headlines an afternoon and evening of racing including women and youth events.

Racing at Club Pittsworth starts with event heats from 2pm with the Postle Gift final run at 6.15pm.

Stawell Gift winner from 2011, Mitchell Williams, heads today's entry list.

The class line-up also includes dual Ipswich Gift winner Gary Finegan, who finished third at Stawell this year, and former Stawell and Australia Day gift finalist Tim Eschebach.

Queensland Athletic League president Bruce Duncan describes the quality of the Arthur Postle Gift entries as "outstanding” for an event he predicts can become a national leader.

"We are very happy with the quality of entries for an event I believe will be a major race of the future,” Duncan said.

"I don't think we could have got any better in what is it's first year.

"The Arthur Postle Gift has the potential to become the best in Queensland.

"The enthusiasm shown by the Pittsworth community for the first event can help make that happen.

"It's very exciting.”

# SPECTATOR entry today is free. Full club and food facilities will be available during the day. Kids' entertainment, live music and boutique market stalls will also operate.
