RUNNING: Keeping their eyes on the trail could be a difficult task for Top of the Range Adventure Trail competitors.

Organised by On The Edge Events (OTEE), Toowoomba’s picturesque Picnic Point will host the trail running event.

“We’ve always wanted to bring the trail running experience to Toowoomba,” OTEE’s Andrew Bonney said.

“We’re known for our events around the Scenic Rim but recently we have looking to expand run events in other regions.

“Picnic Point, in our view, is the perfect place to host the Top of the Range Adventure Trail Run.

“It’s got great accessibility with places nearby where you can hit and relax.

“More importantly though we like the terrain – it’s not too technical for running but it has elevation to make it a challenge.

“We’ve created a loop course to give it a more festival feel. The competitors can run past supporters and be cheered.

“And the views looking out over the Lockyer Valley – every lap of the course the runners will be able to enjoy the beautiful views.

“We think it has a lot of appeal and will be a great experience.”

The event will cater for all fitness and experience with 5, 10 and 15km race distances available alongside a free 2km event for kids.

“Road running has been around for a long time, but there’s been a real growth in trail running of late, there are events popping every where,” Bonney said.

“It (trail running) offers something a bit different – it’s not just a flat out race from start to finish.

“We like to make it a fun and unique experience and something everyone can enjoy – we really encourage families to get involved.

“The 5km is a bit of taster, a way to see what’s all about and if you enjoy it or you’re a bit fitter you might try the 10 or 15km event.”

Proceeds from the event will donated to a local charity or community group.
