NETBALL: Until she is officially back in Queensland Firebirds purple, Mia Stower will still be pinching herself.

The Toowoomba talent is one of two training partners elevated to the Firebirds squad for the 2022 Super Netball season.

“I was pretty shocked when I received the call from Megs (Firebirds coach Megan Anderson),” Stower said.

“To be honest it still hasn’t sunk in, and I’m not sure it will until I’m officially playing again.

“It’s a real honour, and I’m very grateful they have elevated may into the 10.”

Stower has been a Firebirds training partner for a number of years, but 2022 will be her second season as a fully-fledged squad member after debuting in 2020.

“I’m really looking forward to the season,” Stower said.

“I think I’ll be able to enjoy the small things a lot more this time around.

“Everything went by so fast in my first full season.

“It was a great experience, though.”

Stower will train and play alongside a number of top tier talents including goal-shooter Romelda Aiken and goal-attack Gretel Bueta.

“The front court is pretty exciting,” Stower said.

“We have some fantastically talented and experienced players, and I’m looking forward to playing with and learning from them.

“I’m also looking forward to working with Megan (Anderson).

“I will be able to learn.”

Speaking after the announcement of Stower’s signing, Anderson had high praise for the former Darling Downs Panthers player.

“She has one of the best netball brains going round, and it’s lovely to watch her weave her magic out on court,” Anderson said.

“She’s mature and has great leadership potential which will add immensely to our group in 2022.”
