It’s easy to have fun the week after a win, but the Wallabies are not resting on their laurels ahead of their second clash with Wales this weekend.

Toowoomba talent Matt Faessler, who played for Toowoomba Grammar School and USQ Saints, said his teammates remained focus strengthening as a team and continuing to challenge each to grow.

“I think it’s a lot easier to have fun during a week when you’re coming off the back of a win as opposed to a loss,” Faessler said.

“But that still doesn’t mean that we don’t review, preview hard and keep challenging each other at training and continuing to grow but yeah it’s definitely a small step in the right direction.

“I think last week the result was obviously positive.

“I think it’s a small step in the right direction, but for us there’s still a massive area of growth for us.

“It definitely wasn’t a polished performance by any means, so we’re not getting too ahead of ourselves.

“It’s an awesome beginning to the Test season, but for us there’s still a lot of things we’d like to work on and hopefully bring that into the game this weekend.”

Faessler is no stranger to the Wallabies program with last Saturday’s clash against Wales his fifth Australian cap.

The 25-year-old hooker, who represented Australia at the 2018 World Rugby U20 World Championships in France, has also now been part of two Wallabies training camps as well.

Faessler however does not consider himself to be a veteran by any means.

“The nerves are probably a little bit less, particularly just even coming into camp last year, as opposed to coming into camp earlier, a couple of weeks ago this year,” he said.

“It was a little bit more relaxed, but no way am I experienced.

“I’m still a youngster in terms of the Test arena but yeah I’m definitely loving the challenge and I’m finding quite a bit of growth through guys like (James) Slipper and Taniella (Tupou) who’ve been in the ring taking the punches for a couple years so those guys have been massively helpful to me.”

The Wallabies next play Wales on Saturday, July 13. Kick-off at AAMI Park is 7.45pm.
