Toowoomba U14 girls gear up for Queensland hockey state titles

Toowoomba head into the weekend with dreams of claiming a major junior hockey championship on their minds.
Clyde Park, the home of Toowoomba Hockey Association, plays host to the U14 Girls Club Hockey State Championships drawing in teams from Cairns in the north all the way south to the New South Wales border.
The Garden City will have three teams in action during the four-day tournament which starts Sunday.
“Hosting the Under 14 Girls State Championships is a real honour,” Toowoomba Hockey Association’s Jessie McCartney said.
“We’re thrilled to welcome visiting teams, their families, and supporters to Toowoomba, and we’re ready to give every team and visitor a truly warm welcome both on and off the field.
“With 25 teams from every corner of the state including three strong squads from Toowoomba we’re expecting four days of fast-paced hockey, fierce competition, and milestone moments that shape young athletes’ journey.”
Here is a look at how all three Toowoomba teams will line up.

Amelia Mallet
A skilful goalkeeper Amelia is hardworking, great at clearing the ball, and always puts herself in the best position to stop shots.
Eilish Franciso
Injects vibrancy and direction into the defensive line as a second goalkeeper with her effective communication and positive attitude. The team is very fortunate to have two highly enthusiastic, developing keepers in Amelia and Eilish.
Georgia Wilson
Strong and dependable, Georgia is a solid deep defender with great clearing hits that create space for our players to run in to and pick the ball up.
Eliza Digby
Speedy and skilful, Eliza is a driving force in defence that helps switch the play from defence to attack when we’re under the pump.
Hayley Kahler
A constant voice of encouragement and strength as she guides the team from either the left half or centre back position. Both her skills and game awareness have warranted her captaincy appointment.
Imogen Francisco
An enthusiastic and solid defender that has game-changing tackles that stop the opposition from running down the strong side.
Jessica Leicht
Another bubbly spirit, Jessica is a half that has both skill and speed to help her dispossess opponents whenever they enter her striking zone. As one of the team’s ‘social’ captains, Jess ensures everyone is always smiling and feels apart of the team.
Halle Macqueen
Zippy and skilful with the ball on her stick, the aptly nicknamed ‘Lightning’ is a reliable and consistent player in our midfield line.
Hallie Humphrys
Silent and sneaky, Hallie carves up an opposition’s midfield with quick cut-ins and her strong carrying of the ball.
Lexi Chavasse
A midfield line leader, Lexi has developed into a pertinent and reliable player that feeds the ball out of our midfield with speed and accuracy.
Isla Foa
One of team’s youngest players Isla is a small but mighty as centre half and holds her own against older and bigger players with her ball control and smart game play.
Alexah Alchin
Has a strong hit that makes her a dangerous striker. Her speed is another asset to her position as she weaves in and out behind defenders to draw them apart.
Makaylah Hawken
Her strength as a striker lies in her persistence, as she constantly puts the opposition under pressure with her patient but insistent presswork, and once she has the ball there is little stopping her from getting into the circle and shooting.
Felicitie Howley
A keen and selfless striker, Felicitie is always communicating with her fellow teammates on positioning and is always moving to open up channels for her fellow strikers to run in to. With her bright smile and infectious energy, she is perfect as a ‘social’ captain and upholds the main team value: togetherness.
Josephine Grubb
A defender turned striker, Josie has great game awareness that allows her to position herself appropriately and use her killer hit to put goals away in tight spaces.
Tessa Bennett
Strong on the ball and able to eliminate defenders in one-on-ones, Tessa has cemented herself as our striker line leader with the bonus of her game awareness and persistence to chase after every ball.
