VOLLEYBALL: The Titans lost a spirited final against the Brisbane Volleyball Club at the weekend.
Playing on home court as hosts of their annual Clash of the Titans pre-season tournament, the team fell agonisingly short losing two sets to one 25-22, 23-25, 15-13.
Remember the Titans representative Chris Hillman said despite the disappointing result the club was pleased with the effort of their players.
"This tournament is about our players getting quality touches ahead of the season proper," he said.
"We had Titans players in six different teams over the weekend and everyone of them was working hard.
"The tournament is a great chance for all our players to get back on the court and into action.
"Brisbane are one of the top clubs in the state, so even though we didn't get the result in the final it's still a positive."
Now in its ninth year Hillman said the tournament had gone from strength to strength.
"It started with six teams the first year," he said.
"This year we have 25 teams playing across the two divisions, 11 in A-grade and another 14 in B-grade.
"A lot of the players involved consider it to be one of the favourite tournaments of the year because of the mixed team format we play."
The tournament also serves as the first step of the club's preparations for the Grand Prix Series which features teams from across the state competing in five tournaments from March to August.
"We will be entering two men's and women's teams in the Queensland Open this year," Hillman said.
"We've got a few younger players in the club at the moment and this is an opportunity for us to take a look at and work with them.
"It's a big step up from school volleyball to this level but we're not just looking at the season ahead.
"We're looking at preparing and developing them for the future as well."
