ROLLER DERBY: Five Toowoomba friends will realise a dream in July.
Dan Lindenberg, Jason Finlay, Mick Schoenfisch, Col Dennis and Ricky Moss will pull on the green and gold in Barcelona, Spain when they represent Australia at the World Roller Games.
The group has been named in Australia's inaugural Men's World Skate Roller Derby Team and is ready for action.
"The World Roller Games involves different skating disciplines," Lindenberg said.
"This will be Australia's first World Skate Roller Derby team, so it's pretty exciting.
"We've all been skating together for five or more years, and it's been great to be able to skate, play derby and have fun together.
"It shows the skill level of skating around Toowoomba."
World Skate rules promote a faster-paced roller derby game and the group has been busy training since their selection.
"World Skate is focused on keeping the game flowing," Lindenberg said.
"It's more about speed, tactics at speed and being able to move, hit and not be knocked over while you skate at speed.
"The Nell E Robinson netball courts are a great place for us to practise, it's wide and flat and we practise our stride and the skills we need."
The group has also been busy fundraising and has set up a GoFundMe page in the hope of garnering local support.
