CRICKET: It was always a case of Shaun McCarthy first and daylight second for the Hip Pocket Rockets team.
If the talented fast bowler was still available in the Darling Downs Bush Bash League Captains Draft, the Rockets were going to select him.
“It was a never a doubt for us,” Rockets owner Graham Strang said of his decision to select McCarthy.
“If he was still available we were always going to pick him.
“He led the team last year and did a fantastic job.
“He’s a very talented cricketer, one of the best, and helped us win more than a few games last year.”
Just as importantly for the Rockets leadership team, McCarthy is also a more than handy contributor off the field.
McCarthy plays a leading hand when it comes to shaping the team on Draft Night.
“He’s the master of the spreadsheet,” Strang said.
“I’m not a big fan of that side of things.
“He also recognises the importance of representing our brand off the field as well.”
