MOTOR RACING: Cameron Shields begins his next USA stint with a Toowoomba-sized ace up his sleeve.

Flying out yesterday, Shields will head to Chicago where he will start preparations for one of the biggest challenges of his career - racing at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Having spent the last few months at home in Toowoomba, Shields understands his Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship rivals have a "testing” edge but is confident his team will boost his cause.

"I'm really looking forward to getting to Chicago and working with my team - Newman Wachs Racing,” Shields said.

"It's been fantastic working with them so far - they've got a lot of experience and know how to win races.

"Because I've been home in Toowoomba our testing has been limited but I'm confident we can produce the results we want.

"I've also been talking to Will Power a lot - he's been really helpful - as an IndyCar and Indy 500 champion it's hard to beat the knowledge he has.”

Power broke through for his first Indy 500 win last year - a feat Shields (pictured) hopes to replicate.

"All my experience has been on circuits so it will be a big challenge,” Shields said.

"I've been doing a lot of work with the team at Vision Exercise Physiology so physically I'm meeting all my goals and I've been reviewing a lot of data and footage.

"I think my preparation here has been good and now I'm looking forward to getting in the car and racing.

"It will be exciting.”
