CRICKET: From a performance point of view Metropolitan Easts’ first two TCI games were ‘chalk and cheese’.

The Trojans One-Day competition opener was a gritty battle with Northern Brothers Diggers while round two was far more comfortable affair against Uni.

The result in both games however was the same with the Trojans picking up two wins.

“The first game against Diggers wasn’t our best performance but we got there in the end,” Trojans captain Daniel Pollock said.

“Last weekend we bowled and batted really well and got a pretty comfortable win against Diggers.

“The only disappointment there was Pieter (Van der kooij) and Darren (Koch) not being able to carry the bat after getting us to such a good start.”

Sent into bat first against Diggers in round one, Trojans got off to the worst possible start with Van der kooij and Ben Brocherie out for ducks inside the first four overs.

Koch (44 runs off 62 balls), Pollock (30 off 70), Dan Brown (38 off 62) and Harjinder Dhillon (37 off 36) were able to steady the ship though while also scoring valuable runs.

“We got off to a rough start in the first game,” Pollock said.

“It was a bit to with it being the first game of the season, but the thing was the conditions.

“The first 30 overs of that game definitely favoured the bowlers – we struggled with the bat.

“We steadied the ship thankfully, scored some runs and bowled well to pick up the win.”

After posting 186 runs the Trojans picked up a confidence boosting three run win in the bag they carried their momentum into round two.

Up against Uni they were much more convincing – securing a seven wicket win.

Chasing 136 for victory Van der Kooij (54) and Koch (64) were the chief destroyers.

Pollock also contributed adding three more wickets to his season tally.

“I wasn’t intending to bowl as much this season but the situation in our first few games required me to,” Pollock, who has taken 7-43 over the two games, said.

“It’s good to be among the wickets and leading by example though.”

Heading into round 3 of the competition, the Trojans aren’t the only unbeaten team.

Highfields secured a comfortable win over Western Districts and backed it up with a five run win over Diggers.
