A near unstoppable Toowoomba Clydesdales galloped to an impressive 47th Battalion Carnival women’s title at the weekend.

The Clydesdales kicked off their title run in near perfect style with rookie Lillian Cocker scoring in the team’s opening set and they never looked back.

The Roosters second row star bagged a double in the carnival opener with the Clydesdales beating Rockhampton 24-8.

Early scoreboard pressure and defiant defensive efforts were the building blocks to the team’s success but coach Richard Dugdale was most impressed with his team’s mental game.

“We spoke at length about the Clydesdales history, having pride in the jersey and being grateful for the opportunity to represent Toowoomba and the region,” he said.

“The ladies showed that in everything they did and off the field.

“Physically they committed to everything, they were relentless in attack and defence. Mentally they cast aside club loyalties putting the team first and playing for each other.”

Backing up their game one win the Clydesdales booked their spot in the decider with a gritty 14-0 win over Central Highlanders.

Regan McMillan set up the win crossing over for a try in the second minute of the match.

The final was all one-way traffic with the Clydesdales cruising to 26-4 win over Bundaberg.

Picking up a try in the 40th minute of the decider, Libby Dunn earned Player of the Final honours for her work on both sides of the ball.

“We had a good forward park who were relentless through the middle the whole weekend,” Dugdale said.

“Scoreboard pressure certainly helped and the fact we only conceded 12 points shows how committed we were in defence.

“Overall though the win down to a great team performance. Everyone had a role, played it well and gave it their all.”
