Thunder teams set to strike

FOOTBALL: Both senior SWQ Thunder squads will head into their respective NPL games full of confidence this weekend.

After a testing few weeks, both sides produced excellent results last week - the men recording a gutsy draw and the women their first win of the season.

Speaking after their win over Sunshine Coast Wanderers, women's captain Mel Lloyd said the result would help energise her team.

"We've got a young side and sometimes the younger girls find it harder to let go of things,” Lloyd said.

"The more experienced players just forget about the last result and focus on the next game.

"The win will be really good for us - it'll give us some energy and confidence.”

The women's side will look to double their win tally against Mudgeeraba which sits just two places above.

In the men's division the Thunder have an excellent opportunity to record a victory.

The Thunder will play host to a Sunshine Coast Fire side with a porous defence.

With an attacking line that has troubled plenty of defences - the Thunder forwards will fancy their chances against a Fire team that has conceded 59 goals.

More importantly the Thunder's youthful back-line stood tall under-fire last week.

With Moreton Bay United pushing for a late winner the Thunder refused to concede - repelling countless attacking raids.

GAME DAY: The SWQ Thunder men will play Sunshine Coast Fire at Clive Berghofer Stadium today. Kick-off is 5pm. The women are away.
