FOOTBALL: The SWQ Thunder men hope their new focus and game preparation will pay dividends today.
A change to their defensive structure and tactics in recent weeks has helped the Thunder tighten up their defence and now they hope to build on that going forward.
"Tuesday nights at training are now about analysing our opposition,” assistant manager Kris Hemmerling said.
"We look at our opposition's strengths and discuss how we will go about counter acting them.
"It (defence) is an area we've focused on improving and I think you can really see the results of that in our recent performances.”
Having conceded just the one goal in their past two games, the Thunder go into their match with the Gold Coast full of confidence.
They will also have a point to prove after shock 0-0 draw with NPL cellar-dwellars Sunshine Coast Fire last week.
"Quite a few of players were upset after the game,” Hemmerling said.
"They feel they should've won the game by a few goals.
"That's just football, though.
"They're learning that every game we play is hard, every team is hard.
"We're focused on our game with the Gold Coast now - the past is the past.”
Despite their 0-0 draw with the Fire, Hemmerling said nothing would change today.
"We'll keep playing our style - doing what we do best and what works for us.”
The South West Queensland Thunder men and women's senior sides both play at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday April 28.
Women's game: 2.30pm kick-off versus Brisbane Roar. Men's game: 5pm kick-off versus Gold Coast.
