BOXING: Steve Spark’s career could be over right now – fortunately he is celebrating a WBA Intercontinental super lightweight title and not in a hospital bed.
After knocking down previously unbeaten Montana Love in the second round, Spark clearly had the American’s measure in their title before things exploded in the sixth round.
In a bizarre scene more suited to a WWE Royal Rumble match, Love flipped Spark over the ropes and onto the concrete floor below.
“He took the easy way out,” Spark said.
“I got the knockdown in the second round and while he came back at me, he knows I had the fight.
“He launched me out of the ring.
“It could’ve ended my career. I could be a hospital bed paralysed right now.
“Thankfully I landed on my feet – it was a pretty good flip.
“I was ready to get back in the ring and keep fighting, but the referee did the right thing and called the fight.”
Hereâs the disqualification. Wow! âBloody good landing if you ask me!â says a victorious Stevie Spark #LoveSparkpic.twitter.com/lrNSc7sEJe

Love furiously argued the ‘flip’ was not intentional but referee David Field disqualified him and in doing so handed the title to Spark.
Now with the title in his hands Spark will spend the next days focused on everything but boxing.
“I’m really proud of myself, my team and everyone that has supported me along the way,” Spark said.
“We went to (promoter) Eddie Hearn and we said we wanted the toughest fight, the biggest challenge possible and we got that.
“We got it and I poured every ounce of my heart and soul into this preparation and in the fight.
“We’ve sacrificed a lot over the past 16 weeks and this win will give me a top ten (world) ranking.
“I’m going to enjoy a bit of time in America – thinking about everything but boxing.
“I can’t wait to get home, see my son and celebrate with my family and friends.”
