Bernard Tomic eludes to ‘secret’ way girlfriend has turned career around

Bernard Tomic has spoken publicly in quarantine, revealing he’s promoted girlfriend Vanessa Sierra in a “secret” Australian Open tactic.

Bernard Tomic says he has seriously made reality TV star girlfriend Vanessa Sierra his coach after crediting her with his return to form in recent months.

Less than a week into a mandatory two week hotel quarantine in Melbourne, it is already getting weird for the couple locked up together.

Tomic on Wednesday told AAP, Sierra, a provocateur on adult site Only Fans, has been helping him on and off the court as he prepares to launch one more career turnaround at next month’s Australian Open.

It is the latest bizarre chapter in the pair’s turbulent quarantine which has included a backlash to Sierra’s public complaints and claims of death threats being sent on social media.

Sierra this week shared an intimate view of the couple’s quarantine room, revealing they have been stuck inside playing video games up to 11 hours a day.

In a video Sierra also complained about the food that’s been provided, as well as other hardships, bemoaning the lack of access to a professional hairdresser.

Vanessa Sierra has hit back.

“This is the worst part of quarantine: I don’t wash my own hair. I’ve never washed my own hair. It’s just not something that I do. I normally have hairdressers that do it twice a week for me, so this is the situation that we’re dealing with,” Sierra said.

Tomic says the drama is all worth it to have Sierra by his side.

Having won all three matches during the Australian Open qualifying event in Doha, Tomic says Sierra is transforming his game.

The world No. 228 has promoted her from WAG to coach.

“My girlfriend’s coaching me actually,” Tomic told AAP journalist Darren Walton.

“She’s just helping me with a few things. We’ve managed to win eight matches. Quite good, it’s a new tactic for 2021.”

When asked if he was serious, Tomic replied: “Dead set, mate. Of course, 100 per cent”.

“I mean, I’ve won eight out of nine matches. I think I won five out of the six UTR. They were all three-setters.”

When asked how Sierra has helped him in his run of wins, Tomic refused to reveal the secret.

“Mate, it’s a secret. It’s a secret,” Tomic said.

“I’m not going to give out my tips, you know what I mean?

“Happy wife, happy life. That’s it, my man.”

In a typical Tomic interview, the former teenage sensation said he intends to play until he is 35-years-old while also admitting he still refuses to devote his time towards his tennis.

Tomic says he has changed to a vegan diet and is giving up alcohol to boost his performance — but it is clear the same unpredictable Tomic is running the show inside his head.

“Does that involve me working really, really hard? Probably not,” he said.

“But I’ll just do the little things that I didn’t do before — and just try and enjoy it.”
