The championships kept coming and South Australian sports stars continued to shine like a beacon on the national and international stage in 2024.
From Australian Test cricket star Travis Head’s batting heroics at Adelaide Oval to the Adelaide Thunderbirds’ stunning back-to-back Super Netball triumphs, swim king Kyle Chalmers’ triple medal-winning feat at the Paris Olympics and Ebony Marinoff and Georgie Horjus’ national player of the year awards, Croweaters made their mark in a big way.
But who ranked where in the best of the best list?

The Advertiser senior sports writer Andrew Capel has – for the second consecutive year – taken on the unenviable task of ranking South Australia’s top 100 athletes and teams of the year.
The list, which covers a wide variety of sports and a combination of established and rising stars, will again create plenty of debate as some athletes rise and fall from last year’s rankings while others make the elite list for the first time.
Based on performance and inspiration in what was an Olympic and Paralympic year, only SA-born or raised athletes and Adelaide-based teams were considered.
