Students served up visit from Aussie star Casey Dellacqua

Former Australian tennis star on hand to help celebrate Toowoomba International week.

TENNIS : The Toowoomba community and some excited students welcomed one of Australia’s leading tennis personalities to the city last week when Casey Dellaqua lent her support to this year’s Hooper Accountants Toowoomba International.

The 2019 International took centre court at Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre - USQ from October 6-13 when a group of potential future Australian tennis stars were on show.

The recently retired Dellacqua rose to as high as 26 in the world women’s’s singles’ ranking and is a Grand Slam mixed doubles winner.

She was also a doubles partner of Ash Barty.

Dellacqua’s busy Toowoomba visit included speaking about her career and the benefits of tennis to the broader community at the courtside luncheon during the Toowoomba International.

On Sunday she also spent time on court with young tennis players from the SWIN Network who participated in the Australian Indigenous Challenge in Darwin while she also participated in Friday night’s Corporate Challenge

Last week Dellacqua visited Toowoomba Anglican School where she met with the Brisbane International - Australian Open Series Red Ball Team and had a hit with some of the team’s budding players.

Other Tennis Queensland junior activities coinciding with the Toowoomba International included the South West Region League finals

On Sunday a Junior Development (JDS) coaching session was held at the Tennis Centre for 16 players from the South chosen to go the Rockhampton for the JDS state finals.
