BEARS secure under-13 Girls Southern Queensland Cricket Challenge

After four action-packed days of rep cricket in Toowoomba, BEARS have come out on top with a flawless performance in the U13 Girls Southern Queensland Cricket Challenge. Check out the team of the tournament and match wraps here.

After an entertaining four days of action in the U13 Girls Southern Queensland Cricket Challenge, BEARS have come out on top after a perfect week.

Facing hosts Darling Downs in the final, the competition favourites put in a resounding performance, scoring 185 runs in the first innings before restricting the home side to just 100 runs in the second.

The game was highlighted by a stellar half-century from Madhumika Dinesh, who scored 53 runs in the decider.

Meanwhile, in the third v fourth contest, MSW came out on top with an impressive 41-run win over Brisbane North.

Gold Coast and Wide Bay met in the battle for fifth-place honours with the former claiming an emphatic 88-run win.

After 25 games played in Toowoomba this week and some exciting performances from future cricketing stars, we have compiled our team of the tournament.

Day 3

Darling Downs and BEARS put their best foot forward on the third day of action in the U13 girls Southern Cricket Challenge in Toowoomba on Thursday.

With both teams facing blockbuster clashes with MSW, the pair have both booked a spot in tomorrow afternoon’s grand final with one round to spare.

MSW and Darling Downs faced off in the second round today and the clash went down to the wire, with the home side holding on for a pivotal six-run win.

Meanwhile, it was a difficult day for SEQ as it felt the full force of Brisbane North and Gold Coast.

Brisbane North claimed an impressive 68-run victory over SEQ in a strong team performance before Gold Coast defeated SEQ by 139 runs in the afternoon game.

After six rounds, BEARS remain on top with five wins from five, ahead of Darling Downs, with five wins from six games.

Day 2

After two days of the U13 girls Southern Cricket Challenge, it has become clear where each team stands at the midway point of the competition.

It has come as no surprise to one again see BEARS in the mix as they claimed a big win over Darling Downs in round 4, while MSW has asserted itself as another team to watch after it defeated Gold Coast in round 3 by 41 runs.

It was a strong start to the day for the hosts as Darling Downs defeated South East Queensland in the morning game but it was unable to back it up in the afternoon round.

Meanwhile, Brisbane North had a strong day, claiming victories over Wide Bay and Gold Coast.

After four rounds, BEARS and MSW are the teams to beat as they are both undefeated with three wins each, while Darling Downs is close behind with three wins from four games.

With a top-two spot needed to secure a grand final berth, tomorrow’s clashes between MSW and Bears and MSW and Darling Downs will have major implications on finals and are contests not to be missed.

Day 1

The Queensland Junior Cricket under-13 Girls Southern Challenge kicked off in Toowoomba today with some of the best young female talents taking to the crease.

The seven-round carnival runs from Tuesday to Friday and features seven teams from South Queensland.

The first day of competition saw six games played across two rounds with contenders already emerging.

Match wraps from the opening day:

BEARS kickstarted its competition in style with a classy 46-run win over Brisbane North with Lucy Logan leading the charge with the bat, while Darling Downs claimed a narrow four-run win over Gold Coast.

MSW sent a statement in the opening round as it defeated SEQ by 119 runs.

In the second round of the day, BEARS continued its strong start with a big win over Gold Coast thanks to an electric spell form Ruwenthika Nithyananthan, while MSW claimed a strong win over Wide Bay.

Darling Downs also used its home town advantage to its fullest as it made it two wins from two with a handy win over Brisbane North.
