SPEEDWAY : With the last pre-Christmas meeting being run at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway for 2019 last Saturday night, organisers and fans are now planning for the return of racing in 2020.

The new year will begin with a bang at the Charlton track with a major event launching the 2020 racing calendar.

Sunday, January 5 is shaping as one of the year highlights when World Series Sprintcars returns to Toowoomba after racing in Brisbane the previous night.

The meeting also includes the Modified Sedan Twin City Challenge, seen as an exciting concept for what was traditionally a quiet period for the category.

The series also includes racing at Archerfield on January 4 with both nights featuring Modified Sedans racing alongside World Series Sprintcars.

Both sedan events consist of two rounds of heats and a 30-lap A Main which pays $1000 to win both nights.

A class field of Toowoomba Modified Sedan drivers are part of the 25-plus nominations received so far.

Corey Stein, Rodney Pammenter, Shane and Nathan MacDonald and Mick Shelford will be racing Among the best drivers in the country including Chris Haydon from Victoria and the current Queensland Champion Tim Weir.

More interest is expected to come in the meetings’ lead-up from southern state teams.

The Toowoomba event doubles as round four of the Steering & Suspension Warehouse Toowoomba club championship series and it is the last chance for drivers to race at Toowoomba before the Queensland title is decided there on January 17 and 18.

That will be one week before the Kings Royal in Kingaroy which provides another big incentive for drivers and teams to travel to the region from all over Australia during January with three blue ribbon events in the one month.
