SPEEDWAY : Toowoomba’s Andrew Scheuerle will dig deep looking to pull off one of sport’s toughest tasks when he tries to successfully defend his Australian Sprintcar title this weekend.
For 12 months Scheuerle has carried the national number one on his machine across Australian and American tracks after winning the championship at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway last January.
This weekend he again takes on Australia’s best over two night’s of racing at Tasmania’s Latrobe Speedway.
The championship begins tonight with time trials, heat racing and Preliminary A & B Main features.
The title race hots up tomorrow night with the final round of qualifying heats and racing culminating in the 40-lap A Main championship final featuring 20 cars.
This year’s driver field includes past champions Garry Brazier, Brooke Tatnell, Kerry Madsen, David Murcott, James McFadden and Robbie Farr.
Scheuerle rounded off his title defence preparation at last weekend’s Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic meeting at Warrnambool in Victoria.
He’s now hoping to proudly give Tasmanian speedways fans a glimpse of the form that took him to last year’s title triumph.
“I feel that we owe it to the fans in Tasmania and across Australia as the national champion to head to Tasmania to try and defend the title,” Scheuerle said of his 2020 championship plans.
