SPEEDWAY : Andrew Scheuerle will have one eye on the podium and another on Tasmania when he returns for an important home-track assignment on Saturday night at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway.

Scheuerle will be part of a class field lining up at this weekend’s Mountain Masters Sprintcar meeting.

Scheuerle will be out to build on his solid start to the new racing year but this week’s meeting also doubles as a crucial stepping stone towards his Australian Sprintcar championship defence at Latrobe Speedway, Tasmania, from January 31.

The reigning champion’s good start to the season has also included a car rebuild and Scheuerle’s team is desperate to have the National No. 1 machine in peak order for Tasmania.

“I’ve done about eight races to start the season for six podium finishes including a third in Adelaide and a Brisbane win,” Scheuerle said.

“But Sydney has been a bit average for me.

“I flipped at Parramatta a little while ago and we had to put another car together, and it’s just not 100% yet.

“We’ve finished up doing about three rebuilds in the last 3½ weeks and there are still things to be sorted out.

“We finished second in Brisbane last Saturday night, but to be honest it was only a second-place car.

“Everything we do and every time we race now is all aimed at being ready for the Australian titles next month in Tasmania.

“Saturday night’s meeting back at Toowoomba is really important for me and getting the car where we want it to be.

“Torsion bars and suspension are our focus at the moment and we’re looking for a good showing on Saturday night.”
