FOOTBALL: President's Cup winners Willowburn were bought back to earth by a determined Rockville Rovers at the weekend.
Jefferson De Oliveira opened the scoring in the third minute and Rovers didn't look back - going on to secure a 2-0 win.
"The boys were really motivated going into the game," Rovers assistant coach Mitchell Emslie said.
"We sat out last week because of the President's Cup. Watching Willowburn hand USQ their first loss of the season really fired the team up.
"Before the game we spoke about starting strong and we did exactly that. Jefferson's goal inside three minutes was perfect."
De Oliveira scored his second just before halftime but it wasn't all smooth sailing for Rovers.
"Willowburn really came at us, particularly in the second half," Emslie said.
"The boys really stepped it up a gear - we fought hard.
"It's another big win for us and we're determined to keep the momentum going.
"We want to prove to the rest of the competition that we're premiership contenders."
In the women's competition Highfields were a minute away from recording the upset of the round.
Trailing for most of the game Rockville were saved by a Chantal Trapp goal in the 89th minute.
Trapp's goal cancelled out Sarah Hall's opener for Highfields in the 1-1 draw.
Hall is in blistering form for Highfields having scored 10 goals in five games this season.
