RUGBY UNION: Ex-Wallabies are set to join Rangers for the 2023 season and beyond.

Following a successful year for the club, a new mentoring program has been put in place, spear headed by new A-grade head coach Dr Gary Wallace.

“The goal is to continue our on field success while ensuring our players are proactive within the community,” Dr Wallace said.

“Our (Rangers) aim is to have one of the best player and coaching development pathways in the Darling Downs.”

Rangers have organised former Wallabies, who have volunteered their time, to become mentors for the senior playing group.

The mentors will be available via social media and phone and will provide personalised training sessions.

“I believe this is the first time anything of this magnitude has been put together at bush level,” Wallace said.

“We want to continue our on field success, and in turn, ensure we have developed talent from our pathways and programs.”

Senior and junior players will be able to attend specialist position training sessions when the Wallabies mentors visit Toowoomba.

The club is also working to strengthen the ties between its junior and senior playing bodies.

“Each senior player will assist with two training sessions during the junior season,” Wallace said.

“We want Rangers to be known as a family orientated club that emphasises player and coaching development for both men and women.”

Looking ahead to the 2023 season, the Rangers are eager to build on their recent premiership success.

Wallace has made it clear there is no room for complacency in the club.

With the same squad, barring a some retirements, the Risdon Cup premiership winning side have been put on notice.

“Every players’ position will be judged on their performance on the weekend and at training,” he said.

“If they underperform, there are other players that will be given an opportunity.”
