BASEBALL : Lawrence Taylor will be handed the duty of trying to keep Toowoomba Rangers’ miserly 2020 score sheet intact when he steps onto the mound at Commonwealth Oval tomorrow.
Taylor takes on the team pitching duties this week against Narangba Demons as Rangers look to maintain an unbeaten charge towards the GBL Division 4 finals’ series in March.
Rangers are poised in second place behind Wests Bulldogs on the premiership ladder while the struggling Demons sit in second last position.
But after already being stung this season by a costly “upset” loss to Southern Stars, Toowoomba is committed to no more slip ups as it looks to add to its impressive 2020 stats up against the Demons.
“We haven’t had a run scored against us in 2020 and the challenge is there for us to keep defending that record,” coach Luke Ardill said.
“There is no way we will turn up on Sunday expecting to just win.
“We made the mistake against Southern Stars just before Christmas of losing focus by looking too far ahead and it cost us.
“We need to just concentrate on who is in front of us each week and we have a plan with Mick Locke stepping in as coach on Sunday against Narangba.
“We are going to put Sam McNeice (pitcher) back on ice after he helped B grade out last week.
“Lawrence Taylor will pitch this week and we have full confidence in him getting the job done for us.”
