Rangers keen to gauge progress against Stars

Toowoomba looking for flying start to second round of GBL competition.

BASEBALL : Toowoomba Rangers finished their GBL Division 4 first round in style last Sunday but they have plans for a bigger and better round two, starting tomorrow.

Rangers consolidated their second spot on the premiership ladder behind arch enemy Wests Bulldogs with a 14-2 home victory last weekend over Indians Mano.

The win was Rangers eighth straight after suffering its only first-round loss to Wests in their second match of the season.

Toowoomba's winning march has seen its for-and-against runs tally soar to 113 for and 30 against.

The undefeated Bulldogs sit at 98-19.

Rangers tomorrow take to the road for a round-12 clash with Southern Stars in the League's final pre-Christmas game.

Rangers began their season with a 7-4 victory over the Stars in what was an emotional occasion at Commonwealth Oval as both clubs remembered late Toowoomba player Nathan Drewes who was tragically killed during the off-season.

Rangers coach Luke Ardill will use the game to help measure his team's season progress as it prepares to face Wests first up after the festive break.

Rangers vs Indians

"We beat Southern Stars 7-4 the first time we met them on what was a very emotional day," Ardill said.

"Although the score was close I didn't see anything that day from Stars that should concern us this week and we'll use the game as a gauge to measure our improvement since then."

Ardill is also looking ahead to Rangers' home meeting with Wests on January 12 which could decide this season's minor premiership.

"We will come back to training earlier than normal for the game against Wests which could be a grand-final preview," Ardill said.
