Rain-hit Qld PGA set for busy weekend finish

Championship bounces back from lengthy delays.

GOLF: Players and officials are in for a busy Saturday as the rain hit 2020 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship enters its third day at City Golf Club.

The tournament yesterday experienced its second major rain interruption in two days with around three hours play lost after a lunchtime deluge.

Saturated fairways on holes five and six resulting from a stormwater drain spill over even threatened to cause the abandonment of play for the day.

But diligent work by City Golf Club ground staff saved the day with tournament director Graeme Scott declaring the fairways playable ahead of a tournament restart at 3.30pm.

The majority of afternoon groups had not hit off prior to the lengthy delay.

Overnight leader Brad Kennedy, sitting on -9, did not get his second round underway until after 4 o'clock.

All Friday afternoon players are expected to complete their second rounds this morning with little possibility of finishing out last night.

The field will then be cut to prepare for weekend play with the projected cut-off yesterday given out as -1.

YESTERDAY'S playing highlights included a hole-in-one to professional and coach of Ben Ikin, Matt Guyatt, who picked up his ace on the par-three eighth hole.

Ikin shot a solid score yesterday of one-over 71 but will miss the weekend cut at +5.

SPECTATOR entry to the tournament is free during the weekend with club facilities open to the public.
