Just moments after announcing their BMD Premiership status earlier today the Western Clydesdales signalled their intent with an important signing.

Promising utility Paige Edwards is the Clydesdales first signing – joining the club from Newtown Lions.

Edwards signing points to the Clydesdales’ desire to create a pathway to elite league for South West Queensland’s junior players

“I’m very excited, it’s a real honour,” Edwards said.

“We have a very big group of passionate league players in the region and it’s great for us to have this opportunity to play at a higher level.

“I grew up looking up to players like Shenae Ciesiolka, Jada Ferguson and Emily Bass.

“They grew up here as well and it is great to be able to look up to those players and hopefully one day chase those dreams myself.”

The Clydesdales BMD Premiership introduction comes just over 18 months after Queensland Rugby League green lit their return to Hostplus Cup action.

“This is a momentous occasion for the Western Clydesdales and the broader rugby league community in our region,” Western Clydesdales CEO Shane Sullivan said.

“We are immensely grateful to the QRL for their support, and we are proud to have JRS Group as our major sponsor for this exciting journey.”

The expansion, which also includes the Sunshine Coast Falcons, is part of QRL’s three year plan to match the statewide footprint of the Hostplus Cup.

“We believe that these new additions will not only enhance the competition but also expand the game’s presence outside of the southeast region,” QRL’s general manager of pathways and performance Glenn Ottaway said.

“Both clubs have demonstrated exceptional dedication and have strong foundations in their respective areas.

“We commend their efforts and eagerly anticipate their development.”
