GOLF : Andrew Dodt has tasted multiple wins on the international golf stage and victory in the 2015 Queensland Open sits proudly on his list of achievements.
But one of Australasia's biggest golf prizes remains his Holy Grail and the former Gatton and Toowoomba junior champion is hoping 2020 can be his year to shine at the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship.
Dodt will be one of 156 hopefuls hitting off at City Golf Club tomorrow in search of the time-honoured Charles Bonham Trophy.
Dodt has missed the cut at two early 2020 events but is looking to bring with him this week some of the form that snared him an eighth place finish at the recent Australian PGA Championship where he made a daring bid for victory on the final day.
A return to one of his former junior courses now remains an annual priority.
"It fits in pretty easily. It's a tournament high on my radar every year since I finished up in Europe," Dodt said today.
"I like to try and support the local community and the local events.
"It's actually one of my first goals I write down at the start of the year - to try and win the Queensland PGA.
"That's why we are here and hopefully we can put on a good showing.
"I haven't had too much success in recent years at this tournament, but I'm just trying to come up with a bit better game plan this year.
"It's a course if you are mentally doing your job on you'll probably have a good week.
"I'm just trying to get my mental preparation as good as I can get it and see where it takes me.
"My game's there.
"The Australian PGA was a little bit disappointing, as good as it was.
"I finished with bogey-bogey on the Sunday when potentially I could have won the tournament instead of finishing eighth.
"The form's there. It's been there in the back half of last year and I'm hoping to carry that momentum into 2020."
Dodt is tipping a stern test of golf awaits this year's PGA field.
"I've just finished playing nine holes and hearing they are not cutting the rough, hitting the fairways is a premium this week," Dodt said.
"The rough is quite thick with the recent rain that we've much needed, so if you are on the fairway you're a chance of hitting the greens - if you're in the trees - you are not much of a chance."
"As in most tournament in Australia, they're good fields.
"Aussie guys are good players.
"It doesn't matter where or what tournament you play at they're good players, and it's tough to win.
"Having said that, you've still got to play your game at the end of the day and it's very competitive.
"It would be a great feeling (to win).
"I know what the area and community have gone through with the drought and bushfires.
"If I can bring a little bit of joy or success to the area as a local here during my younger playing days, I assume it would be a good feeling."
